History of the Gloria Municipal Police Station
The Foundation of Local Law and Order
The history of the Gloria Municipal Police Station (MPS) is deeply intertwined with the very birth of the municipality itself. In the early 1960s, local leaders initiated a movement to separate 25 bustling barrios from the mother town of Pinamalayan. Following a period of transition and legal victories, Gloria was officially established as an independent municipality on June 9, 1966, through Republic Act No. 4651.
During these formative years, the first local police force was organized to establish peace, order, and security for the newly minted town. Operating under the administration of Gloria’s first mayor, former guerrilla leader Nicolas M. Jamilla Sr., these early law enforcers laid the groundwork for public safety in the community long before the integration of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The Heart of the Municipality
From its earliest days, the police force operated close to the seat of local government. In 1968, the Gloria Realty Development Corporation donated a two-hectare parcel of land to the municipal government. By 1972, this property in Barangay Maligaya was developed into the official Municipal Complex, which naturally became the permanent home and operational headquarters for the Gloria MPS.
As the years progressed, the station evolved alongside national law enforcement transitions, moving from a locally managed municipal force into a vital component of the modern Philippine National Police.
The Modern Era and the New Headquarters
To better serve the growing population of Gloria and to align with the PNP’s modernization and facility development programs, a major infrastructure upgrade was initiated in the 2010s.
Construction of the new, standard PNP Type B/C Building officially began on August 6, 2014. The project was backed by the PNP Trust Receipt Fund (4th Quarter, CY 2012) with an allocated budget of Php 4,684,077.00.
The modern headquarters was completed and proudly inaugurated on February 14, 2015, during the tenure of Chief of Police PSI Teofilo Bacsa Awingan and Provincial Director PSSUPT Florendo Campo Quibuyen.
Moving Forward
Today, standing firm in Barangay Maligaya, the Gloria Municipal Police Station remains a symbol of resilience and dedication. From its early origins securing a newly independent town to operating out of a modernized facility, the Gloria MPS continues its steadfast commitment to its core mandate: to serve and protect the citizens of Gloria, Oriental Mindoro with honor, justice, and integrity.
