GLORIA, Oriental Mindoro — In line with its continuing initiative toward Gender Awareness and Development (GAD), the Gloria Municipal Police Station (MPS) officially launched Project W.C.P.D. (We Care, Protect and Defend) through a kick-off activity conducted on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
The project aims to capacitate and empower women police officers by enhancing their skills, knowledge, and confidence to become more capable and effective law enforcers. The program focuses on strengthening the competencies of female police personnel in marksmanship, driving, martial arts and defensive tactics, as well as special laws, particularly those concerning the protection of women and children.
The kick-off activity was personally led by PMAJ Florante M. Sugian II, Acting Chief of Police of Gloria MPS, who also served as the first lecturer of the program. During his discussion, PMAJ Sugian emphasized the vital role of women in law enforcement and community development, encouraging female personnel to become proactive leaders and advocates of women and children’s rights.
Project W.C.P.D. also aims to extend its impact beyond the police station by preparing women police officers to become resource speakers and mentors in the community. Through this initiative, female personnel will conduct lectures and empowerment activities for women in various barangays to help them become more informed citizens and active partners in the fight against crimes, especially those involving abuse and violence against women and children.
According to PMAJ Sugian, the project reflects the station’s commitment to gender-responsive policing and community empowerment.
“Women play a crucial role not only in law enforcement but also in shaping safer and more informed communities. Through Project W.C.P.D., we aim to empower our women police officers with the necessary skills and knowledge so they can, in turn, inspire and educate other women in the community to stand against abuse, violence, and criminality,” PMAJ Sugian stated.
The Gloria MPS expressed optimism that the project will strengthen the confidence, capability, and leadership of women police officers while fostering stronger collaboration between the police and the community in promoting safety, awareness, and protection of women and children.
